Privacy Policy

The short version: the ProtoScan software has no telemetry and never sends your network data anywhere. This page explains that in full, and is honest about the little this website itself collects.

The headlineProtoScan is self-hosted. Your inventory, topology, scan results and credentials live only on your server and are never transmitted to us or any third party. The software does not phone home.

1. The ProtoScan software

ProtoScan is installed and run entirely on your own hardware. Because of that:

  • No telemetry. The application does not collect usage analytics or send any data about your network back to us.
  • Your data stays local. Discovered devices, topology, vulnerability findings, alerts, credentials and API keys are stored in the app's embedded database on your server.
  • Outbound connections are minimal and purposeful. ProtoScan reaches the internet only to do its job — for example, retrieving vulnerability data from public sources (such as the National Vulnerability Database), performing WHOIS/TLS expiry checks on assets you add, delivering notifications you configure (Email/Slack/Discord), and checking whether a newer version is available. None of these transmit your inventory or credentials.
  • You are the data controller. Since you operate the instance, you are responsible for how it's secured and for any personal data your network inventory may contain.

2. This website (protoscannetwork.com)

The marketing site you're reading uses lightweight, first-party analytics to understand traffic and downloads. We aim to collect as little as possible.

What we collect

  • Pageviews — the page path visited and the referring URL (where you came from).
  • Session duration — roughly how long a visit lasted.
  • Download events — when the installer download button is clicked, and the version shown at the time.
  • Standard server logs — your web server request data, such as IP address and user agent, kept for security and operational purposes.

How it works

  • No cookies. Anonymous random identifiers are stored in your browser's local/session storage to distinguish visits. They are not cookies and are not shared across sites.
  • First-party only. Analytics are collected by this site's own server. We do not use third-party trackers or advertising networks.
  • No sale of data. We never sell or rent any information collected here.

Third-party services

  • Google Fonts. This site loads fonts from Google's font CDN. Your browser's request to that CDN may expose your IP address to Google under their own policies. No other third-party content is embedded.

3. Your choices

You can block the website's analytics with any content blocker, by disabling JavaScript, or by clearing your browser's site storage. Doing so does not affect your ability to download or use ProtoScan. The download will always work regardless of analytics.

4. Data retention

Website analytics and server logs are retained only as long as useful for understanding traffic and maintaining security, and are then aggregated or deleted. The ProtoScan software's data retention is entirely under your control on your own server.

5. Children

ProtoScan and this website are intended for IT and networking professionals and are not directed at children.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product and site evolve. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
